Lough Key is a special place. And when the sun has settled and a dusky stillness descends on the lake, the true meaning of Quiet is everywhere. You can almost hear it.

Quiet
There's something special about secrecy
About sneaking away when no one is watching
Between the yellow lights and the night-time noises
Of music and laughter and not knowing we are gone
We are threading our way out of the marina
Onto Lough Key's dark skies and silent silhouettes
A steady heartbeat at the back of our boat
The bow carving softly into the languid lake water
You are in the cabin steering a finger tip course
I am sitting with my legs dangling over the prow
We are both alone now, mesmerised by the moon
By the chug, the calm and the softness of night
These are special, elusive, tranquil moments
When time and thought and doing are surrendered
To the peace that comes from nothingness – from quiet
Like stepping out to star gaze in the dark
