On Banna Strand

On Banna Strand

We stopped and stared in silence
At the stillness of the sea
At the water's gentle breathing
At defined eternity
We watched the turning hands of time
Soft held within the tide
Its lap, its lilt, its vanished wilt
To silence by our side
We saw the sun reflected
In a glimmer of the moon
And watched the clouds as paintings
With shapes and patterns strewn
We saw the streaks of slivered light
Stretch out across the bay
They flickered and subsided
At the dying of the day
And when the sun had settled
And the dusk lay all around
We turned and slowly sauntered home
Without a single sound
